Steven Buckman, MLTA President, (center) and Nancy Gusman, MLTA Past President, (right) met March 10 with Congressman Delaney (D-MD) (left) to discuss issues that are important to the title industry.
Congressman Delaney is a Member of the House Financial Services Committee, specifically the Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit Subcommittee, which oversees the CFPB.
They discussed CFPB's interest in "streamlining the closing process" and the title industry’s desire to improve the closing process for consumers and the industry.
They focused on encouraging better education for the consumer and promoting better uniformity and less duplication of closing documents. Congressman Delaney was very receptive to Buckman’s and Gusman’s comments.
They also discussed the Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act (MFDRA). MLTA encourages Congress to quickly and retroactively extend MFDRA in order to assist the housing market, especially in the case of short sales.
