All you need is an MLTA membership. If you are an MLTA member, please join us for organizational/community events and discussions/presentations that affect the title industry within the Southern part of the state.

Chapter Meetings

In April, 2012, the CFPB issued a bulletin holding lenders liable for violations of federal consumer protection laws by their third party service providers, including title insurance agents. Find out how the contents of this bulletin will affect you, and what you need to do now to remain on a lender’s approved closers list.

MLTA Meeting, November 8, 2012

Attendees: 11 in Attendance
Call to Order at 9:00 am
Welcome & Introductions: Everyone was welcomed and we all introduced ourselves.
Guest Speaker: Ted Rogers, The Security Title Guarantee Corp., spoke on the CFPB “Vetting” issues.
 It was a very informative presentation and gave us all a great overview of what we may expect to see if the future, why these regulations are being considered, and what we can do to make our companies compliant.
Old Business:
March Education:
 Where:  SMAR Building in Hughesville, MD
 When: March 14, 2013
 Time: 12:00 – 4:00 pm (set-up 11:00 am; registration 11:30 am)
 Topics:  Title Searches (1 ½ hours) (1 hr speaker; ½ hr recent scenarios)
  (Speaker:  Local Abstractor)
  Policies (1 hour) (specifically homeowners commitment)
  (Speaker:  Title Underwriter)
  New HUD-1 (1 ½ hours) (if ready by then) OR
  Claims (1 ½ hours) (if new HUD-1 is not ready)
 Potential Sponsors: Green Folders, Iron Mountain, TSS, Require, Red Vision

Community Service: It was decided that the chapter will do a food drive for the local food banks. We will collect at our places of employment and ask chapter members to bring everything they have collected to the meetings. We rotate our meeting between Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s counties. Everything collected at each meeting will be taken to the food bank for the county hosting the meeting. That way, we can benefit all 3 counties. Brenda will look into seeing if we can make a public presentation of items to be put in the local newspaper to give us some positive exposure and maybe draw some interest into the MLTA and our chapter.
 We will check with the MLTA to see if we can offer some sort of discount on the March Education if you bring a bag of food for the food drive.

New Business: 
January Meeting: Our next meeting will be January 10, 2013 at 9:00 am at Aspect Title & Escrow, LLC in California, Maryland. This will be a business meeting, and our main focus will be finalizing plans for the March education.

Connie is coordinating the collection of donations needed for New Jersey residents hit by Hurricane Sandy. Flyers where handed out with the drop off sites.
