Membership Classes and Types: Definitions
Membership shall run from Nov. 1, 2012 thru Oct. 31, 2013.
MEMBERSHIP CLASSES
Active Membership (Class A)
Limited to persons, sole proprietorships, partnerships, corporations or other business entities qualified or licensed in, and actively engaged in, the land title evidencing business in the State of Maryland. In general, Active Membership is limited to those persons or entities that provide abstracting or title examination services, or who issue or insure policies of title insurance. For licensed Active members, a copy of the Insurance Producer License issued in the name of the Applicant must be included with this application. This definition includes providing closing services.
Associate Membership (Class B)
Limited to persons, sole proprietorships, partnerships, corporations, or other business entities that are engaged in any trade, industry, or profession related to land title evidencing within the territorial jurisdiction of this corporation. Services provided by Associate Members include, but are not limited to, independent real estate closing services, surveying, mortgage brokering, real estate sales, real estate software sales, and offering errors and omissions/professional liability insurance or bonding protection. Associate members shall not have a vote in the corporation’s affairs.
MEMBERSHIP TYPES
Title Insurance Underwriter
Limited to business entities that hold a current Certificate of Authorization issued by the Maryland Insurance Administration authorizing the entity to act as a title insurer in this State.
Corporate
Limited to business entities whose employees are actively engaged in abstracting, examining, or issuing policies of title insurance on lands situated in the State of Maryland or in any trade, industry or profession related to land title evidencing. A Corporate Membership will allow employees and officers of the business entity to obtain educational and other member services at the discounted member rate, if any.
Individual
An individual engaged in abstracting, examining, or issuing policies of title insurance on lands situated in the State of Maryland, or who is engaged in any trade, industry or profession related to land title evidencing. Individual members may obtain educational and other services at the discounted member rate, if any.
CLTP Designee
An individual Active Member who has been designated as a “Certified Land Title Professional” by the MLTA. CLTP members enjoy educational and other services at applicable discounted membership rates, plus other benefits available only to CLTP designees. All CLTP designees are listed on our website: www.MDLTA.org.
Rules for prorating dues and using a payment program:
MLTA dues payment for previous members may be prorated by quarter. Proration of dues is not available for mid-year renewals.
We can set up a 3-month payment plan if you make the first payment on or before November 1, 2012.
1. Corporate Member – 3 monthly payments, 11/1, 12/1 and 1/1, of $145 - totaling $435.
2. Individual Member – 3 monthly payments, 11/1, 12/1 and 1/1 of $75 - totaling $225.
New members: contact MLTA for information on proration and payment plans.
Important Notice for those who use a payment program:
In order to qualify for any member discounts (e.g., education classes, Fall Convention, Crab Feast, etc.), membership fees must be paid-in-full.
