We are seeking an Underwriting Counsel for DC, MD and VA (position is FULLY REMOTE). 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Provide legal counsel, answers and guidance to customers and internal departments on real estate closings and title insurance matters and determine the Company's willingness and ability to insure within the parameters of those transactions. 
  • Create and deliver relevant educational topics at live seminars and webinars. 
  • Establish relationships with new customers and maintain relationships with existing customers.
  • The ability to provide underwriting support in additional jurisdictions is a plus.   
  • Promote the ethic and professional practice of law while interacting with TRG’s team players, clients, litigant, members of the bar, members of the judiciary and their staff, and all others, while engaging in the practice of law on behalf of clients and TRG.  
  • Respond to time sensitive requests from customers for guidance in closing real estate transactions and mitigate risk.
  • Assist with audits as needed. 


  • A Juris Doctorate Degree from an ABA approved law school.
  • A licensed attorney in good standing in at least one of the following states: VA, MD or D.C. 
  • 5-12 years of title insurance experience or real estate experience. 
  • Must have knowledge of title insurance rates and rules for all states of responsibility and remain current of all current developments in rules and regulations in the assigned states. 
  • Must have knowledge of title insurance underwriting standards for each state assigned. 
  • Must have the ability to discuss and review proposed requests for coverage to determine potential risks; to suggest and provide adequate language in title commitments, policies and endorsements that will protect the Company's interests while assisting the Company’s agents.
  • Must be able to issue underwriting guidelines for all assigned states.
  • The ability to prepare and deliver relevant presentations to the Company’s customers.
  • The ability to support the development of new customers.
  • Occasional travel is required.

The Title Services Officer is the primary contact for all WesBanco Title Insurance matters. The Title Officer must initially take responsibility for building and maintaining a settlement services provider network serving this Mid-Atlantic market (Maryland & Northern Virginia), and coordinating their services with WesBanco Bank lending, while, at the same time, creating a market presence and introducing the business to our customers. As a captive insurance agency, the primary market for our services are WesBanco Bank lenders.  The Title Officer is required to market our services to all WesBanco Bank loan referral sources in the Mid Atlantic market, and capture a meaningful percentage of that business. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Builds relationships with all loan officers to create confidence ability and to assure loans sent to our settlement service providers will close promptly and provide a quality experience for the borrowers. 
  • Meets regularly with all WesBanco Bank personnel having the ability to act as a business referral source, including loan officers, banking center managers, business bankers, private bankers, and other employees. 
  • Works with WesBanco Insurance Services management and WesBanco Bank management, to coordinate their internal support and encouragement of WesBanco Bank lenders to use our in-house settlement company.
  • Maintains agency relationship with title insurance underwriting companies.   
  • Coordinates the delivery of title insurance commitments and policies with an in-house title document processor.  
  • Works with WesBanco Bank personnel to identify current settlement service providers, and work to incorporate them into our network.
  • Identifies additional providers to fill out our network. 
  • Monitors settlement service provider performance with follow up calls to loan officers, and investigation of complaints.
  • Monitors the performance of our closing attorneys with follow up calls to loan officers, and promptly acts on any complaints received. 
  • Prepares monthly revenue and monthly income reporting.
  • Maintains relationships with our title insurance underwriters.
  • Completes payables processing and checking account management. 
  • Maintains checking accounts/ work with accounting department to balance accounts. 


  • Bachelor's Degree in business preferred
  • Minimum of four years of experience in title insurance or mortgage lending. 
  • Active and familiar with the market and business community within which the representative will operate. 
  • Professional appearance and presentation.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with personnel at all levels. Includes strong telephone, presentation, as well as facilitation and customer service skills.
  • Strong decision making and negotiation skills.
  • Self-motivated to include being an organized, detail oriented, and independent self-starter.
  • Team player with a positive attitude.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and perform well under pressure. Includes the ability to operate efficiently in a fast paced, environment as well as set and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to recognize and preserve confidentiality.                                                 
  • Proficient knowledge of Internet and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Proficient knowledge of SoftPro Select title insurance software (preferred) or other title insurance software.

Must either have Maryland and Virginia title insurance licenses or must be obtained within 90 days of start date.

National title agency seeking an entry level or experienced title processor to work in their Towson, Maryland office. Candidates should have experience in reviewing and producing Maryland title exams and searches, conducting real estate research and preparing title commitment/policy forms. Some training will be provided as necessary. Offering a competitive salary and a collegial working environment.
