Maryland REALTORS® is hiring for an Associate Counsel.

The Associate Counsel provides legal advice and counsel to the trade association and its not-for-profit and for-profit subsidiaries and affiliates on a wide variety of topics.

RESPONSIBILITIES: In this position, you will staff and support various association committees; write articles for the association’s magazine; and provide content for the association’s web site, videos, and other materials. The Associate Counsel will also be responsible for staffing the association’s Legal Hotline; providing timely responses to members; and providing training, including teaching continuing education classes, at local boards or associations either in-person or virtually, as needed, on a variety of topics including ethics, fair housing, contracts and forms updates, legislative updates and current or topical issues.

REQUIREMENTS: J.D. from ABA accredited law school and membership of Maryland State Bar are required, as well as 1 - 3 years’ legal experience. Superior legal reasoning, communication, and interpersonal skills, including experience working in multicultural settings,  are of the utmost importance. Experience with trade associations and familiarity with campaign finance laws preferred. Limited travel may be required.

Responsibilities would include:

  • Manage Executive team's calendars.
  • Provide administrative assistance, such as writing, editing and responding to emails, drafting letters and preparing other communications on the Executive’s behalf. Answer incoming phone calls in a polite and professional manner, take care of the needs of a caller when appropriate and accurately take and prioritize messages. Leverage excellent client communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Effectively use the internet and other sources to find contacts, titles and connections, prep Executive with basic background information for meetings, and keep abreast of relevant breaking news.
  • Personal assistance.
  • Work to keep Executives organized by assisting in developing and implementing organization systems. 
  • Other duties as assigned.
